MTPS Tech Tools

Google Keep
With Google Keep you can take organized post-it like notes or lists where ever you go. It is easy enough to do from a phone, tablet or iPad. When you start using Google Keep you will never need to worry about loosing a post-it note again! Your new notes will now follow you to any device that you sign in to using your Google credentials. I love the connivence and the organization of Google Keep.

Keeping Up

I get asked frequently how I stay up to speed on all the new/changing technology. One of the biggest ways I stay connected is by learning from others. I learn a lot about new and innovative ideas from Twitter but I also learn a lot from reading other people's blogs. If you are passionate about learning and staying up to date about anything in the education world I highly recommend finding some key people to follow on Twitter and through some blogs. I have specific blogs that I check daily! I also look for things like Google's Tip Tuesday. Google posts new tips to these slide shows so you can easily learn more about some of Google's Tools. It is great because you can also flip back through the weeks. The following links are ways that I keep educating myself so I can offer more to the students and teachers I work with.

Padlet

Padlet is a fun interactive way to collaborate and share ideas. Padlet can be used to share students' "best" Post-it notes or Genius Hour ideas. Padlet is also a great way to reflect on learning or for students to ask questions. Teachers can create a shared bored space where students can post to the board using text, images, video, links and more. To share your board space with students simply give them the link, you can even paste it on a doc or in your Google Classroom.

Common Sense Media Website

The Common Sense Media Website, is a great tool to help learn about new sites, apps, and games. The site also provides reviews that are helpful in determining the appropriateness of a site. This website can easily be used by teachers, parents, and students.

A Google A Day Challenge

It is easy for us as teachers to forget that researching is a true skill that needs to be practiced. Using "A Google A Day" you can challenge your students to research specific questions using Google. Each day they post science and history related questions. This could be a great activity to start your day with. I discussed with some teachers the idea of creating a leader board to spark student's interest.
